Ryuichi Umeda
Hello everybody! My name is Ryuichi Umeda but my friends call me Jeff. I came to Hawaii with my parents, who are natives of Japan, and grew up on the North Shore of Oahu. My parents emphasized the value education early on by sending me to private schools and assigning me math worksheets everyday. Even though I wasn’t very excited about doing the worksheets I am glad I did them because it helped me build a solid understanding of mathematics and excel in my courses. Today I am a student at the University of Hawaii studying Economics. I have taken up to calculus II and plan on taking more math courses, as it would be beneficial to my college career. My tutoring experience started about 2 years ago. At first I would help my friends out whenever I had time but eventually their parents offered to pay for me for my tutoring services. It was a lot of fun because it made me happy to see my friends do well in math. Over the past several months I have been working at math learning center. Through this experience I have gained many techniques and methods for teaching math to elementary and middle school students. I really enjoy teaching theses kids because I feel like I am helping them make the transition into high school and succeed in their future math classes.
